Financial Benefits



Maternity, Parental or Sickness Benefits- Employment Insurance (EI) provides maternity/parental benefits to individuals who are pregnant, have recently given birth, are adopting a child, or are caring for a newborn. Social Assistance-
This program provides financial assistance to help persons in need meet basic living costs. General inquiries 453-2001.

Special Need Benefits-
This program provides a benefit supplement to persons in need. Benefits may be provided to meet a one-time emergency or to address longer term needs. Most benefits are for medically related services, fuel, and school expenses. Call 453-2001

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program- This program provides eligible individuals with free help filling out their tax returns. 1 800 959-8281

Alternative Child Care Program
-This program provides financial assistance to low-income parents who are working or in school and who do not have access to licensed day care. For general inquiries contact 453-2001

Canada Child Tax Benefit- You will receive a form for this while in the hospital but if you lose it or make a mistake you may want to order another form.
This is a tax-free monthly benefit payment made to eligible families with children under 18. It may include the National Child Benefit Supplement (NCBS), a benefit for low-income families with children, and/or the Child Disability Benefit (CDB), a benefit for families caring for children with severe and prolonged disabilities. Canada Education Savings Grant-

The Canada Learning Bond-
The Canada Learning Bond provides a learning bond for children born to families who receive the National Child Benefit Supplement. 1 800 622-6232 or 1 800 465-7735.

Daycare Assistance Program-
This program supplies financial assistance to help low-income families get access to affordable quality day care. Partial subsidies may be available. For general inquiries call 453-2001.

New Brunswick Child Tax Benefit-
This tax-free monthly benefit is for low-income families with dependent children under age 18 and is usually included in your Canada Child Tax Benefit. Toll-free number is 1 800 387-1194.

Prenatal Benefit Program- Many moms don't know about this one but t
his program offers a monthly prenatal benefit and educational support to help low- and moderate-income pregnant women meet their nutritional needs. You are eligible to receive monthly cheques starting in the 14th week of pregnancy. You should apply as soon as possible to receive the maximum benefit amount. Universal Child Care Benefit- This usually comes automatically and on the same day as your Canada Child Tax Benefit, and i
