How your toddler's growing
She's becoming much easier to understand now that she often combines pointing with a word or two. And her growing independence is asserting itself in numerous ways. She can undress herself (dressing will come much later), have a go at brushing her hair and feed her dolly -- but you'll need to continue to clean her teeth for a long time yet.
She may be able to sort things by color, shape and type now, which makes toys that encourage these skills particularly popular. If "no" hasn't already become her favorite word, she'll begin using it with a vengeance. She's gradually easing towards one nap each day, which means this is a transition period that's potentially hard on you both. If she needs more than one sleep during the day but won't give in to a second sleep, try cuddling up with her on the sofa to see if she drops off.
Your life: feeding a picky eater
Toddlers are known for being finicky eaters, so you can save yourself time and heartache by keeping meal preparation simple. But try to present a fairly good mix of foods on her plate at every meal. If you offer a variety of healthy options, chances are she'll get all the goodness she needs -- though it may mean she's eating her vegetables at one end of the day and the main course at the other. You may find that she prefers some vegetables raw so why not give her a piece of raw carrot, for example, as a snack instead of fighting over uneaten portions of cold, cooked carrot on her plate.
