- Sponge your child off with water at room temperature. Don't bathe your child in cold water or alcohol.
- Give your child cool clear fluids to replace water lost due to sweating.
- Dress your child in light clothes.
- Wait 30 minutes after your child eats or drinks to take an oral temperature.
- Call your doctor if your child's temperature is higher than 39 degrees C (102 F) or if your child is nauseous or vomiting, has neck stiffness, stomach or joint pain.
- If your child is over the age of 2, look for a fever medication and give the appropriate dosage using the dispenser given with the medication.
