Tips For Relieving Your Child's Fever

  • Sponge your child off with water at room temperature. Don't bathe your child in cold water or alcohol.
  • Give your child cool clear fluids to replace water lost due to sweating.
  • Dress your child in light clothes.
  • Wait 30 minutes after your child eats or drinks to take an oral temperature.
  • Call your doctor if your child's temperature is higher than 39 degrees C (102 F) or if your child is nauseous or vomiting, has neck stiffness, stomach or joint pain.
  • If your child is over the age of 2, look for a fever medication and give the appropriate dosage using the dispenser given with the medication.
