IUDs

I was thinking of getting Mirena, an IUD, as a form of birth control as my husband and I are not planning on having children for many years if at all. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it?

Have you researched the IUD? AT first I wasn't aware of what it was so I thought it might be an option for myself. However, after realizing what it is (the device makes it so a fertilized egg cannot attach to the uterine wall, making itself some what of an aborting tool) I decided otherwise.

Hello, I'm sorry but the first comment by Anonymous is completely wrong. Mirena uses progestin, the same hormone as the pill, to prevent ovulation. It does not cause you to abort fertilized eggs, so dont worry. Even the copper kind that does not have any hormones works by preventing sperm from attaching to the wall of the uterus. Check the website womenshealth matters dot ca and search for Mirena or for Copper IUD. I used an IUD because other birth control measures with lots of hormones gave me migranes. I had it in for about 2 years and I really liked it since it was worry free. I had it removed to conceive my second child with no problems. We could feel it during sex a little when in certain positions, but that is only because DH is very...large...(I know, TMI), this is going to have to be anonymous ;)
