Growing Pains

" I am wondering what any of you can tell me about growing pains. What age do they start? What are the symptoms?"

I vividly remember getting growing pains when I was 6 or 7. I had extreme pain in my legs, more specifically, my chins. Advil and a warm compress are what my mom did for me. They only lasted a couple of days. But I seem to remember only getting them in spurts, funny how that is :-P.

yea, I am just wondering, my son has been very irritable these past few days, I don't know if it's just boredome, or if there is really something wrong, he is almost 2. My husband thinks he might be getting growing pains..

My daughter is almost 22mths and whenever she's cranky, I ask her if something hurts and then I ask her to point where it hurts. Usually works pretty well. I don't know if your son would respond the same way but I suppose it couldn't hurt to try. I would imagine it would hurt to touch if it is growing pains. Maybe try touching key areas such as his legs or arms to see if he reacts with a cry or yell.

With two year olds, anything is possible. Ly daughter has been super cranky lately, but she just got over the worlds worst diaper rash and has at least 2 teeth coming in.

If it's growing pains it's pain in the bone and Tylenol works perfectly for that kind of pain.

yeah, i am pretty sure he has all his teeth, he is not of age yet, where i could ask him a question like that and expect an answer.

I doubt at 2 he is getting growing pains. They tend to happen around ages 7-12, depending on gender. They are most common in the shins, and there's really nothing you can do for them:( Tylenol and heat, but that's it. My guess is that something other than growing pains is bothering your son. I know that there are a few bugs going around right now, including bronchitis. Good luck figuring out what's wrong!

Maybe it'd help if you told us what your little one has been acting like?

well he actually was fine today... lol but he has just been really irritable. fits all day long! and I am past losing my patience about it. it lasted for about 4 days. all of his sleep, eat... habits stayed the same but he woke up in a bad mood everyday! it was so weird, showed no signs of being sick..? how many teeth do they get? I think he has them all but that is the only thing besides boredom i can think of.

Maybe he cut his second set of molars? I know when my 2 year old did he was pretty cranky like that for a couple of days and I noticed them breaking through and then all of a sudden he stopped and the next time I looked in his mouth they were all there! They came in really quickly! He could also just be doing the normal 2 year old cranky fits too, doesn't necessarily mean anything's wrong with him.
