If you are pregnant, get some rest. According to a recent study, the sleep disorder known as sleep apnea, can lead to an increased risk of gestational diabetes, and high blood pressure.
Sleep apnea occurs when the upper airway narrows or collapses, causing people to wake up in the middle of the night.
The most effective treatment for the disorder is a device called a Nasa C-Pap. It delivers air through a mask keeping the airway open.
They aren't sure exactly why sleep apnea is associated with diabetes development but believe it has something to do with the "fight or flight" response that comes with excitation during sleep. The next logical step will be to see whether treating sleep apnea improves diabetic parameters.
