Hello All, I have had little to no weight gain so far, I am 20 wks.
I am overweight to begin with ... and unless you are me or my husband you can't tell that I am pregnant ...
Has anyone else experienced this ? I would love to have the big beautiful pregnancy belly I have seen photos !
Yours truly
Stephanie

If you are overweight, you don't gain as much as an average or underweight person would. Have you talked to your doctor?
When I was pregnant with my son I kept loosing weight till the 7th month (around 28-32 weeks). Then I only put on 15 pounds of what I actually lost in the begining. Came out after giving birth less the what I was before getting pregnant. However I did get a belly in the end.
I would suggest talking to your doctor but im sure if he/she hasnt allerted you yet, then thier is no need for concern. Every womens body adjusts to pregnancy different and I'm sure you will get a belly before its all said and done!! Good luck (i know i rambled sorry)

well i'm now 25 weeks pregnant and i have just started to gain weight. up until about 18-20 weeks i had actually lost 14.5lbs and have now gained back only 3.5lbs. i do have the pregnant belly though.
with my first pregnancy (this is my second in a little over a year) i did gain very slowly starting since i found out i was pregnant (i was 2 months then) but didn't start showing till i was 7 months.
i now look like i did when i was at 7 months the last time but with less weight gain (i actually weight less now then i did then as well)
every pregnancy is different.
just talk to your doctor about it if you are concerned about it, but i don't think it is a problem if s/he hasn't discussed it with you yet. good luck with everything!! (and i too ramble .. sorry)
I have only gained 3 pounds since getting pregnant and I am 21 months and I would not consider myself overweight. My belly is growing but I am not really gaining. This was the same way with my 1st pregnancy I never started to gain till like 5 months and I had a very healthy baby. My weight gain really picked up in my last trimeste I would not sweat it.
What is going to be normal for you is what is very different then what is going to be normal for someone else.
As long as baby is growing on track, your actual weight gain is irrelevant. Usually with women who are overweight, baby lives off the "reserves" so to speak and your weight actually shifts to baby. You usually eat better when you're pregnant so you're probably losing as baby is gaining. That being said, overweight women are recommended to gain about 15-20 lb over a pregnancy where an average sized woman will gain closer to 35lb. Myself, I'm overweight and with my first I gained 45lb from a lot of swelling. This time around (at close to 41 weeks) I've only gained 12lb.
thanks everyone. i feel better about it. i hav no idea so many others on this group were pregnant too.
jessakah i am wondering if we can start a pregnancy forum, just for the pregnant moms to go and chat too. i will check back for it in hopes ;P
steph
I think that is a great idea. :)
I had a similar experience , I lost 10 pounds in the first 5 months , and then started to gain weight ...and don't worry about having the big belly to show off.. it will come ..by the end of it you'll be glad when it's gone ..lol
