"Hi everyone, we will soon be relocating to Fredericton, and are both working parents. I would like to know, how much you pay, or your friends pay, per day at Daycare, or for a private sitter, and if this sitter comes to your home, or your child goes to theirs. Also, what do you typically pay for a night out? I asked one contact I have there, and have heard that their sitter will soon be upping the rate to $40.00 per day!"

My son goes to daycare and we pay $120 a week, so $24 a day. He's in the baby room so its more expensive than once he moves up.
well i paid 530/month for a 2 year old room. that is probably true about the price going up. january 2007 most daycares upped their prices a bit to keep up with minimum wage increasing..
I babysit many for many Fredericton families and I usually charge minimum wage. I also have to make a living, and it's just not worth working 9 hours for $20 (one mother told me that was plenty for watching her two children, ages 5 and 9).
I pay my babysitter $4/hr and my son goes to her house. I provide all his food, diapers and wipes too.
I provide childcare in my home and have for the past 8 years. I charge $25 a day and the parents provide lunches, and usually they put lots in for snacks too. (Even though I advertise that I provide the morning and afternoon snacks.)However; I have heard a lot of childcare providers both public and private are raising their rates. As for now I won't be. I feel childcare is taking such a big chunk of a parents income as it is! Yes your kids are worth the paying extra for good care, but I feel that can even be done as a bonus at Christmas time, paying if your care giver needs to take a sick day etc. I have always left that up to my parents discretion. I do not charge for my sick days or my holidays, but the parents pay me for any days I am working but the child is not there including stat holidays. They pay the same every week consistantly. However; I have had parents pay me for all my sick days, holidays etc. That was because they felt their child was in excellent care and that I deserve some vacation time too. That meant more to me then charging the extra, because it was given based on their feelings about me as their son's child care provider.
I pay 25$ a day, and I send my three year old son's lunches, snacks and beverages. As for if I was going out one night and hiring somebody in, I am not sure.. I have always been fortunate enough to have family care for him in that case. I was in St. Andrew's over the weekend and read that people charge $10/hr for babysitting 1-2 children. When I babysat as a teenager (6-10 years ago was the span of time I babysat) it would be really exciting if the parents would pay me 5 or 6 dollars an hour. I would usually just let the parents use their own discretion, however, that might not be the way it is now.
Well. I am relieved to see that none of you are paying $40 per day plus the cost of supplies!

Sometimes I end up paying $40/day plus his food and diapers depending on what shift I'm working and where my husband is at (he travels for work)...but when I pay that, he's been there for 10 hr.
Wow! When we considered putting our son in daycare, we were told 20-30 dollars a day. Instead, we opted for one of us to always be home with him. Of course, for most people that's not an option, but we were fortunate that my husbands classes and my part time job were able to work around each other. Now my husband is working and I stay home all the time with our son, who will be five at the end of the month. We have to cut some corners, but noone does without and we enjoy each others company. :-)
You're lucky. I would so love to be able to stay at home all the time with my kids, but sadly student loans and a mortgage just won't allow it. I am lucky in what I do though because it's shift work so I can work odd hours and still make enough money to survive but also be home a lot with my children. That, and I usually work 12hr shifts which sucks at the time but I get a lot more days off for doing so.
I am a babysitter I watch a 6 year old 3 days per week for 7hrs I make 40.00 for the three days I never realised how much people were paying babysitters, I geuss I'll be looking for a better paying babysitting job.
I just could not believe how much people were charging.
Hi there! I provide in home child care and I charge $25 per day. I don't charge the parents for when the child is not there, so when they are sick, holidays etc, they do not pay me. I just can't justify charging parents for when their child is not in my care. I also take the children on outings and have a scheduled day. I do educational activites with the children and provide healthy meals and snacks. So in my opinon $40 is a lot of money, especially when you can get really great care for not as much money.
As a former childcare provider. I charged $20/day. I got paid for 5 days/week, unless it was parttime and then I had to be guaranteed at least 5 days in every 2 week period, so even if they were only with me 1 day in those 2 weeks, I still got paid a minimum of $100. I also got paid for all holidays and sick days. The only time I didn't get paid was when I took a day off. I think most parents realize that the child care is our income and they generally don't take advantage of that. We have recently moved to a new province and I decided that I wanted to work outside the home, so now I had to find child care for my son. I came across this website which provides a national listing of child care providers (if they have signed up)It was a great tool for me. It is also a great tool for anyone who provides child care and wants to get their "name out there". Maybe it'll help you too.

I am a stay at home mom and I take in 1 or 2 kids at a time, I charge $20/day and siblings I charge $35/day, I also provide all food and recipts because we are a low income family it does not affect me come tax time for the recipts. I dont charge as much as most because I figure im home anyway and I love kids. My husband works till 7 or 8 every night so it helps break up my day.
I pay my weekend babysitter $30 for the evening and $50 for an overnight. Needless to say we dont go out often.
Hope this helps and I sugest you look around and get references as well its a good idea for them to have first aid and CPR.
We have a 1 year old and we pay 31 dollars a day at a daycare. They provide the food and snacks and we provide diapers and wipes.
