New Baby Not Having Bowel Movements

I'm a new mom and my baby is 6 weeks old. He hasn't gone to the bathroom in 3 days. The nurse says its normal and my family members say that all their babies went to the bathroom everyday or every other day. I'm wondering what other mom have gone through. It seems un normal to me and he seems to be fussy today compared to most days. He is on lower iron formula and everyday I give him an oz of water...nothing seems to help. I would just like to hear from other moms on their opinions.

thanks..

It's not uncommon for baby's bowel movements to change and it's also not uncommon for formula fed babies to get constipated. You can try bicycling his legs and giving him tummy time and if that doesn't work, take a rectal temperature. Sometimes some gentle stimulation like that can prompt the bowel to get moving again. And if none of THAT works, talk to your doctor or telecare about some other things you could try. I wouldn't be too concerned at this point since it's only been 3 days but if he doesn't go in the next couple of days, I'd definitely be calling the doctor

My baby has gone a few days between bowel movements too. I was worried too. A nurse had told me to put a little vasaline around her bum hole. With in a hour she went. :) We also tried doing the bicycle with her legs too. I think formula fed babies don't necessarily go every day too. Hope that helps :)
