Just curious if anyone has any ideas of places to take the kids for fall things like picking apples, corn or hay mazes, petting zoo's etc. I provide in home child care and would love to have some new ideas for where to take the kids for field trips.

Apple picking is in full swing! The farm I like is Everett farms in Kingsclear...nice spot, nice people and decent price with a lot of variety to their apples. My kids also like the Country Pumpkin in Maugerville where there is a playground and farm animals to see and feed. Green Village also sets up a haymaze close to Halloween that would be fun for older kids. What about collecting some leaves and pinecones while out on a walk and making crafts? Or just jumping into piles of leaves in the yard? You could also make bird feeders and watch everyday to see what kinds of birds come by. An easy way that I used to do when I was a kid was to roll a sytrofoam cup or a pine cone in peanut butter and then roll into some bird seed and hang it out. It can double as a squirrel feeder too so you might want to stick with pine cones!
Oh yeah! I love the bird feeder idea! Good one!
That Everett Farms that I mentioned has a website too...www.everettapples.com
i think maugerville has a corn maze
thanks for the help everyone...I saw the stuff on the fredkids site and I thought the hunter brothers corn maze looked really cool but it's about an hour away, so I thought it would be too far to take my daycare kids...I wish I knew of one nearby.
What area are you in?
there is a corn maze at the BIG POTATO in Maugerville and a petting zoo at the COUNTRY PUMPKIN just down the road. They both have play grounds that the little ones would enjoy playing and having a picnic at both places.
Science East is a great place to take the kids. Its fun and educational for all ages.(great on a rainy day) Its not that expensive and the kids love it.
Don't know where you are, but Skinny's in Mactaquac Heights has a petting zoo (and sell ice cream). We take our kids just about every weekend.
I live out in Hanwell. I actually took my daycare kids on a field trip to Everett Farm and I have to say it was amazing....it was beautiful. The woman that owns the orchard came out and talked to us about apples and the ages of the tree's. The kids had soo much fun...and the woman has extra insurance on her business in case of any accidents that might happen. All in all it was wonderful!!
