Freezing Baby Food

"Can you freeze baby food that you buy at the store? I don't want to wast any food and you are only suppose to keep the jar open for 3-4 days. Can I freeze the leftover? Thank you!"

I don't see why you couldn't, but I don't think I would bother. Instead, if you're concerned about waste why not make your own baby food? It's cheaper, more eco-friendly, tastier, healthier and it freezes really easily. I do mine in ice cube trays so that each portion is about 1oz and I just thaw what I need for a feeding when I need it, or if I'm eating something that baby can eat I just throw it into my food processor and feed that.

How old is your baby? I think baby food is a waste of money. I have been giving my daughter what ever we are having as long as it is cooked well enough for me to be able to mash it up with a fork. With my first I was pretty tight with just giving him baby food, and now he is a huge texture freak and will only eat certain foods. I think my feeding him baby food is to blame :S

That's actually really common with jar fed babies. Homemade baby food never has the same texture and it's rarely, if ever, as smooth as store bought stuff so your baby gets used to different textures and will actually transition to table food more quickly.

You should give it a try! It's so easy!

I think it should be fine to freeze. But regarding the homemade baby food...I have made all my baby's food and she hasn't turned her nose up to anything. But she is almost a year and besides baby mum mums she won't eat anything unless it is pureed. I would like to see her start chewing something (she has 9 teeth). Do you think I am rushing her or should she be ready to start eating other things? If I give her cottage cheese she sucks the whey and leaves the curds in her cheeks. She is such a good little eater I would hate to break the good habits she has now. Any suggestions or am I rushing her???

I've always been one to just go with the flow. She won't eat only puree forever...but you could start making them a little thicker maybe.

I sent an e-mail to Heinz company and they said that you can freeze their food up to 2 weeks. Also, you should freeze it as soon as the jar is open.

I made all of my daughter's baby food, and she would eat just about anything, as long as it was pureed - she was really slow to transition to table food, despite my making her baby food. At 20 months, she still won't eat pieces of meat or potato, but she will eat any and all fruits and veggies puree'd and mixed with yogurt or cereal. Don't mess with it if your daughter is eating healthy, nutritious foods - who cares how they are delivered (whole, mashed, puree'd)?
