Gardasil

A new vaccine for the HPV, Human papillomavirus, the virus that is the leading cause of cervical cancer, is now being offered to girls in the 6th to 8th grades for free at schools in Ontario, PEI, and Nova Scotia, with the consent of parents. But only half of parents in Ontario signed the permissive slip to have their daughters vaccinated. What do you think about this? What would you do, and why?

I dont' think i would use this vaccine it just came out and nobody really knows what effects it is going to have and there was also a feature about this in macleans a few months ago and girls who got this shot were so sick they could not even get out of bed or walk for 3 days

I thikn i would rather my daughter be sick for 3 days than have cancer

the article in macleans stated that these children got very very sick. a couple even died. i think the vaccine is too new plus educating children about protecting against std's (which can cause the cerv. cancer) is a better tool.

and it is still not 100% effective against this anyways

the vaccine is 5 years old. and besides who says just because you TELL your child not to do something that they will listen. Better to be safe than sorry

it has not been administered long enough to know what the full effects are.

the children who are receiving it in schools this year.. it will be interesting to see if the rate does drop but until then..i doubt i would do it. it is just like the birth control bandwagon people jumped on for depo and then finally not too many eyars after it came out people were advised not to take it...
