Non-Disposable Diapers/ Cloth Diapers

We are expecting our second babe and starting to think about using non-disposable diapers this time around. has anyone ever done this before and what was your experience?

Hi!
I have used cloth diapers pretty much from day 1. I was just learning about them when I started and initially bought sized which were too big for my baby at first. I have since done a lot of research and tested tons of brands and styles for our store and prefer the one size diapers that are available. I personally love using cloth diapers for many reasons. We have some great free hand-outs that I could email you and also do free workshops. Feel free to take a look online or call me with any questions!

I use cloth with my 2 boys - 2 years and 7 weeks. I love it! I would never go back. For our toddler we use pockets, Bum Genius and Baby Kanga are my favorites, you can stuff them according to how much your child wets. Our baby we use a combination of prefolds and pockets. I like both and have fewer leaks with prefolds since its easier to get a good fit around his legs.

They are definatly worth it, it makes diaper changes more interesting and all the money you save is great.

Mayghan, do you wash them at home, or use a diaper service?

Sorry if this post twice, for some reason my post dissapeared.

Anyways I wash my diapers at home, finding a wash routine that works is probably the hardest part of cloth diapering, what works for one person doesnt always work for another since the water is different as well as the washer, and detergent. Once you find something that works its really easy though!

do you use those liners that you can flush?

I don't, I do have some but I have never used them. I bought them for when my youngest starts daycare since they will use cloth there as long as I use a liner but havent tested them out yet.

I do have a sprayer that hooks on my sink to spray the poo in the toilet though! That works really well and I highly recommend one!

I use the bio-liners - they are great for keeping poops off the diaper. I just wipe and flush with no mess and I can re-use the ones that have only pee on them (I just wash them with a little soap and hang to dry).

We use cloth as well and have a 29month old (who is hardly in them anymore), a 15month old and one on the way!! I favorite are the one size... I like the baby Kangas and the Bum Genius... however the Bummis Kits are great too and very economical way to start... I have tried over 10 different brands while doing research for my maternity & baby Boutique as well... and have great instructions on washing/wearing/why use...

*we also have free delivery to Fredericton (to Hanwell Road) if you wanted to try one or 2...

I really dont mind washing them, and its not nearly as much work as I originally thought it would be... but I DO use the flushable liners and LOVE THEM... they are so amazing!

Let me know if you have any questions :-))

are their diaper services in the Fredericton area? i would love to get started using cloth but we live in an apartment building well our house is being built (hopefully done in sept) so i am thinking with coin operated machines it would not be very cost effective, or environmentally friendly. i dont even know if i would know where to begin either, any information or advice would be appreciated, thanks!
