There isn't really a "set" time to stop, but the Canadian Pediatric society, the World Health Organization, Health Canada and just about every other health related authority in the world strongly recommends breastfeeding for at least a year (some say 2 and beyond) with the first 6 months being exclusively breastfeeding.

It's a highly personal decision and completely depends on your reasons for wanting/needing to stop. Care to elaborate?

My daughter is 5 months now and she is just starting to eat from me which is the best thing ever because now I only pump once a day. I have told myself I am going to stop but I never do I just keep going now I have a full deep freezer full of milk that I dont want to go to waste. It sounds silly I no but I dont no what im going to do. Now that she is feeding from me I dont want to take that away from her.

Your freezer stash can still be used. Breastmilk in a deep freezer is good up to 6 months. You can use it when making babyfood or you can thaw and give it to her in a sippy cup.

How do you prepare your baby when your going to stop? Now she is to the point where she does not want the bottle at all and its rare that she will take one for me. I love breastfeeding but I also want to feel comfortable leaving her.

Start by dropping the least favorite feed. When she would normally take that feeding, try distracting her with something or giving her a snack instead. Then, gradually drop one feeding at a time until she's weaned. It may take a while and she may not skip the feeding you want her to cold turkey but if you keep at it and do it gradually it won't be so hard on her.
