My now three year old was significantly speech delayed. It was an expressive delay which meant he understood but just couldn't "say" anything. At the age of 2 he said 4 words. Ma Ma, Da Da, Ba Ba and Choo Choo. We saw a pediatrician who recommended.... DAYCARE. Yup, believe it or not he said he will learn faster if he's in daycare. Sure enough, he started talking about a month or two into daycare. We went to a private speech pathologist which was covered by our Blue Cross (up to $500 per calendar year) and now he is an above average speaker. I highly recommend private speech pathology, the Talk with Me program (free) and some time at daycare if you can.
I KNOW it's frustrating but trust me, they will talk when they are ready but you can help them along!

just something to add to the other comments... READING is the best way to help your child talk as they are pointing to the pictures you tell them what it is. I am a sham of 2 and we only watch tv for 1 or 1.5 hours a day and we read for 15-20 mins 3 or 4 times a day.

I don't think it's necessarily a daycare issue, I think it's socialization. It's so important to socialize your children with their peers.

My son was also speech delayed and at the age 2 he could only say mom and dad. My speech therapist taught us sign language and once we started that hegan to put words with his sign language. And he was also put in playschool and it helped a ton. Even though he still a bit delayed we were told just after a year of him getting help he wouldnt qualify for headstart in alberta because he imrpoved so much. So I would recommend talking to someone sooner than later. And always I wanted to add that the reason he had a hard time talking is basically when he tried to say words his mouth wouldnt move. So the speech therapist would actually help him move it. IF you can and it may sound silly sit with him infront of a mirror and work on making letter sounds so he can see what his mouth should look like. Sounds crazy but it worked and me and my son had fun at the same time doing it.

I would suggest taking him to see your Family Doctor if he is delayed. None of us are qualified here to know exactly what is going on with your son.

It could just be a socialization "thing", or maybe he just doesn't want to talk! OR he could need some speech therapy, which is common in boys!

I suggest taking him to see your doctor, getting a referral to a Pediatrician (Dr. Messenger is the best Pead in fredericton). Find out whats going on, IF anything at all .. and then you will have your mind at ease, as you did every thing you should do for your son
