Making Sentences

"My child is 23 months old and not putting sentences together. I am just curious as to what age your little ones started putting sentences together."

children only start using 2 words together around 2 years usually.. so i wouldn't worry as long as they understand what they are supposed to for that age the words will come...

Learning to speak, like everything else, is different from child to child. Having said this, it is my experience that boys learn faster at physical things like walking and girls have an easier time of learning to talk. My own son hardly said anything at all until he was nearly 3. He just didn't have anything to say, I guess. When he did start to talk though, it wasn't just baby words...he had waited until he had accumulated a bit of a vocabulary before he decided to communicate verbally with us. I would say don't worry about it unless your child gets past the age of 3 and still isn't talking. And of course, if your physician or public health nurse is concerned, there are hearing tests and other such things that can be done. And remember...the more you speak to and read with your child, the better they will learn to speak and read themselves! :-)

Really? My experience, and observations of my friend's children is the opposite.

It's not that he doesn't know words. He doesn't ASK me when he wants something, or answer me when I ask something. I know he know what he wants to say, he just doesnt say it. That's why I am wondering at what age everyone else's kids started putting sentences together.

I know that all children are different, but am just wondering to get an idea. Thanks. More input needed!!! Lol

i think what drs are more concerned about are receptive language (how much he understands) does he understand if you tell him go get your shoes, go get your blocks etc.? children typically understand more than they can say. but the understanding helps them build their expressive language what they say. it is usually after two years that they put words together they will start labelling objects before they answer questions etc. such dog cat cup etc. at about 24 months drs are t ypically not concerned unless your child has less than 50 words. it sounds like a lot of words but its really not when you think of all the words they can say. hope this helps!
