What To Pack For The Hospital

"I'm 36 weeks pregnant and decided it was time to pack the bag. But, aside from an outfit to wear home and basic toiletries, I'm drawing a blank on what to pack. I know it's a short stay...but I would really like to have some things like my nursing robe and house shoes and a few other comforts from home. Just wanted to see what all of you are planning to pack or have packed in the past.

I've heard that it's a good idea to pack your own pads for afterwards because the hospital pads aren't very comfy. And, of course, pack stuff for baby...outfit, blanket, pacifier, and extra diapers (even though the hospital will provide some). AH! If there is one thing I've had the MOST trouble with during this pregnancy, it's making decisions!!!"

I would suggest you don't pack a book, I didn't the second time around after the first time, all I wanted to so in my spare time, was sleep :P

I agree with Jessakah...I packed a book but never opened it once, lol! I actually found the hospital pads pretty comfy, but that's me! I didn't bring much...couple pairs of socks (which worked out well since during labor one pair got soaked with a gush of water from a contraction, haha!), an outfit from when I was about halfway through my pregnancy, robe, toiletries, and that's about it I think (for myself..for baby I brought outfit, diapers, soother, blanket, hat..) I also brought my own pillow

I have had 4 kids, and due in 4 months for baby #5, and last! I hope you find this helpful: Mom's List: 2 comfy nighties (with access for nursing if you plan to do that), robe, slippers, 2 pr. socks (definatley a pr. for labour), panties (extras!), pads, breast pads, breast cream (if planning to nurse), outfit to wair home, a couple face clthes, a towel (to wash my hair), my personal stuff (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deoderant, mouthwash, skin cleanser etc.) I also highly recommend a medicated lip gloss such as "Blistex Lip Medex", the hospital is very dry and I applied it quite often. For Baby: diapers,a one pc. diaper vest, a take-home outfit, reciving blanket, sweater set (with hat), a travel size baby care set (includes lotion, wash etc.) and a soother, (if you plan to use one). Again those are the items I found necessary. My first baby I brought a book, a find-a-word puzzle book, and cross work book...Never opened! They give you so many forms, and books, and brochures at the hospital you'll have lots to read in the spare time you have between, check ups, baths, feedings, sleep and just holding your little one and looking at him/her in absoulute awe! It is an amazing experiance no matter how many times you go through it! Best wishes!

well , the first time around i packed anything and everything i could fit in my suitcase , because i had no idea what to expect but i found a few things helped out alot ..a new pack of dark colored underwear ( just cheapies because if you're like me some may get thrown out), a nursing bra if BFing(pads were unnecessary because milk didn't come in till i was home ), candies (as mentioned before the hospital is very dry and i found a candy helped with dry mouth), new pack of the most absorbant pads you can find (most likely overnight ones), a robe to wear when in the halls , 2-3 of your own pillows (the hospital ones are horribly uncomfortable), if you plan on going in the tub during labor you may want a swimsuit (once again if your like me i didn't want the nurse coming in every 10-15mins to me laying there naked lol )....that's all i can think of right now ...Good luck !!

All I packed was something to wear home, nursing bra, underwear, breast pads, Lansinoh, lip gloss, toiletries, robe, slippers, book, camera, batteries, something for baby to wear home, receiving blanket, scratch mitts and some diapers. You might want to have some cash on hand if you plan on having your TV hooked up and for the snack cart that comes around. Also don't forget a list of phone numbers of people to call when baby arrives!

Oh yes! Baby mitts! Good one,

But, dont worry if you forget, the little shirts they put on them have mitts on the sleeves, just unroll them all the way, and fold em over, you will see what I mean, I actually found that those worked better than the actual mitties because they couldnt fall off!

To be honest, I brought a whole pack of diapers and wipes the first time round and didnt even get to open em! So, the second time, I only brought 4 or 5 and ended up using one.

Also, if you ARE going to BF, buy the smallest thing of Lansinoh you can find, cus that stuff lasts FOR ever!!

The phone was a must for me, and I didn't have cable either time...

Oh I didnt find the hospital pads to be bad at all, and didn't use my own till I got home. Yes get overnight'ers and the highest absorbency level you can find, I liked Kotex, and Stayfree!

I also didn't used my own undies till I got home. I found the super stretchy ones they gave worked great, and I didn't care if they got ruined.

For my second baby I packed snacks. Lots of snacks, granola bars etc. Bottle water and juices too. As a nursing mom, I was postively starving after the birth of my son and toast and gingerale from the ward kitchenette just didn't cut it.
Of course, my daughter was born Christmas eve and we went home on Christmas day so I didn't get around to eating most of the snacks I'd packed anyway. LOL.

my first i packed everything i could get into my bag and baby's bag. i didn't even use half of it. this time around i will be packing much less.
a comfy outfit to go home in (NOT pre-pregnancy size), couple pairs of comfy pants, couple BF friendly shirts, nursing bra(s), couple pairs of socks, extra panties (that i wont mind throwing out if i need to) a pack of thin overnight pads cause i found the ones at the hospital very bulky and uncomfortable on my stitches, travel size toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste)and a must if you are BF is some sort of nipple cream. i forget what brand i had last time but it worked great, just something very moisturizing and safe for baby too.

Then for baby's bag: a going home outfit including hat, a cool receiving blanket, diapers (the hospital i was in only had diapers for when they took the baby), wipes, small tub of diaper rash cream (just encase), scratch mitts (though i never used them on my daughter in or out of hospital), and I'll probably pack travel size wash and shampoo just in case as well.

i highly suggest you go and buy a package of depends (the underwear ones),. depends is the best cause it doesnt bunch up it keeps you feeling dry, and they fit really comfy and you dont have to worry about leaking cause the whole underwear is a pad, these were great i couldnt live without them. some girls dont bleed much but i tore so so bad and i bleed sooo much and for sooo long! the depends were so so so worth the money. i would say pack some things to keep you entertained at night... i had a hard time sleeping in the hospital so having a magazine was great for those boring moments., although i was alone the most the time as my parents live outside of the city and the babies father didnt come to see her once) cable is nice too, worth it for sure, it helps pass the time during feedings, my daughter would feed for like 45 min, and i just got so bored lol. some snacks are a good idea ( i suggest you get whatever treat you realllyyyy enjoy :) lol and have lots of salt on hand when you get home, it doesnt burn when you take a bath and it heals you up really fast ( i tore through my urethra and down to my anas so i mean it when i say they heal you up fast lol) hope this helped!

My suggestion would be to bring lip gloss because it is VERY dry in there and a hair tie. I also paked some snacks of my own for when I was hungry and they weren't serving a meal. When you attend a pre-natal class they give you a huge list of things to pack for labor and I packed them (only for my 1st) however only used the lipgloss and hair tie. Oh pack shampoo and conditioner too because they only had baby shampoo : )

Snacks for sure! I am also thankful that I had my own toiletries, deodorant, face wash and toothbrush. And the chapstick is a must. Good luck!
