How your toddler's growing
By now your child will begin to set goals for himself. He'll have particular ideas about what he wants to do, like pushing his toy car down the path or fitting all the pieces of a puzzle together. He'll also care about the results - you'll see he's pleased when he's successful and frustrated when he's not. It's all part of his burgeoning independence.
Your life: dealing with finicky toddlers
Does your child want to hug you one minute and push you away the next? Don't take her vacillating needs for closeness and self-assertion personally. They're all part of growing up. As her world view broadens, your toddler will take more of an interest in playing with other children. She might imitate how an older sibling plays soccer or follow after other kids as they play tag.
Birthday wishes
It's not long now until that birthday ... try working out what toys, equipment, and clothing you'll need for a two year old so you can let your friends and relatives know. It's best to keep the event fairly low key at this age, as two year olds are easily overwhelmed by too much excitement and hoards of guests.
